Ductless Heat Pump Maintenance

When you have a ductless heat pump installation done by qualified professionals, you can expect an HVAC system that will last for years with minimal problems – but that doesn’t mean you can skip out on maintenance. Ductless heat pumps need HVAC maintenance like any other HVAC system. In fact, in many cases, the warranty on your mini-splits will require a yearly professional maintenance checkup to keep your coverage.

So what kind of HVAC maintenance will your ductless heat pump need? Mt. Hood Ductless is here to help!

The Most Important Elements of Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump Maintenance

1 Cleaning the air filter

Like any HVAC system, your heat pump will have an air filter that needs to be cleaned or changed regularly. You can – and should – do this yourself every 1-2 months. However, a pro will also ensure your air filter is in good condition.

2 Cleaning the drain pan

A drain pan sits underneath the evaporator coil and catches any stray water or condensation that drips off. Over time, it can get a nasty buildup of dirt or gunk. This is something else you can potentially clean yourself, but it won’t get dirty that quickly.

3 Cleaning the evaporator coil

Along with the drain pan, the coil itself will need to be cleaned from time to time. If it gets too dirty, it won’t work as well. You should start leaving the cleaning to the pros since the coil is easily damaged if mishandled.

4 Checking the conduit line

The conduit line carries coolant throughout the system, so it must be clear and free of any kinks that might inhibit coolant flow. A professional HVAC maintenance worker will make sure it’s in good condition.

5 Cleaning the outdoor unit

Over a year, the outdoor condenser will pick up a lot of dirt, grime, and debris. Feel free to clean the exterior if it has a buildup of fallen leaves. However, please do not attempt to clean its interior or electrical systems yourself. Leave that to the pros.

6 Fixing the insulation

Over time, the outdoor unit’s insulation may degrade, inhibiting performance. An HVAC maintenance professional has the tools to repair or replace any broken insulation.
